Tug Update 01/03/00 Short, but Hey! at least I got it uploaded
We have been working on the boat quite a bit over the summer and fall of '99. I installed new convectors for the radiant heating system in the forecastle and master stateroom. These are army surplus units originally intended for use in military trucks (20,000 Btu rated output) I had to adapt them by removing the 24 volt dc blowers and installing ac fans on the back . They do put the heat out. I Finished off the washer and dryer room. With luan plywood this involved lots of furring attaching wood furring strips to the steel framing to attach the plywood to). At this time I completed the wiring to the galley, I am getting away from using the rigid plastic conduit in favor of the flexible plastic kind. Its much easier to work with. The plumbing for the wet bar was istalled before close in. I framed the wall by the washer dryer to accommodate later removal of the washer and dryer as the door to the room is too small for this. Linda and I tiled the walls and floor of the half bath off the salon. And I installed the toilet we are using kohler power flush units to avoid the use of gravity tank toilet and the expense of vacuum flush unit. I substantially finished the aft salon over the summer. This involved completing the wiring , insulating
with mineral wool, attaching all the furring. The overhead I had furred and insulated
last year. I still had a lot of 1x6 t&g kd douglas fir lumber left over from
the floors. I wanted to use this on the overhead ,so I proceeded to sand and v
groove it to look like 1x3 v grove t&g. I then cut all the t&g to fit
between the frames. After it was all up we primed it and applied a gloss white
high gloss finish. Then I added false mahogany beams. Next I paneled the walls
with Philippine mahogany and then trimmed it all out with Honduras mahogany.
I am now in the process of centrifuging the lube oil to get the water and impurities out . we got a spare centrifuge with the boat so I took it all to pieces and rebuilt it from the ground up. I changed the motor from dc to ac, the original motor was horse so I changed it for a horse ac motor I now regret this . It should have been a _ or 1 horse as the motor has a lot of trouble getting started. I am sure this is why the Overload (called a "heater" in electric talk) blew on the dc stationary unit originally installed on the boat. You can't here the motor clicking away with the generator running!
